Lower cholesterol with oats

Breakfast is important – it helps to give you energy to start your day right. Research shows that eating the right foods at breakfast can help to prevent heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. Oats, and particularly steel cut oats, have been identified as a excellent tool to help lower cholesterol and prevent heart disease.

When I first read about the benefits of steel cut oats, I decided to give it a try. After buying the steel cut oats, I realized that it required a fairly long cooking time (25 minutes) I was wondering how I could make it work for me.
So I decided to make the oats at night and prepackage the cereal so that it would just need to be reheated in the morning.

I added a few other ingredients – cinnamon, applesauce, and flaxseed – to boost the flavor and health benefits.

This recipe is chock full of healthy ingredients:

  • The steel cut oats help to lower cholesterol, stabilize blood sugar, reduce risk of Type 2 Diabetes, reduce risk of colon cancer, and help prevent heart disease.
  • The apples contain antioxidants, fiber, and flavenoids.
  • The cinnamon is anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and helps to maintain blood sugar levels
  • The flaxseed is rich in omega-3 fats that help to prevent heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.

TheĀ  oats have a full bodied nutty flavour that I find is much better than instant oatmeal. Try it soon and you will be enjoying a great taste and a healthy way to start your day!
